From the theaters of Broadway, to the stages of marketing and motivation, Udana Power has been wow-ing audiences for over three decades with her intelligence, charm, wit, and authentic personality.

As a dynamic visionary, she has inspired many with her rags to riches and then, to rags, to even bigger riches story.

Highly accomplished and productive in her artistic career, Udana found herself later in life where many people are today – out of work, broke, frightened, stressed and having to re-invent everything about who they are from the ground up. She shares her story with audiences of how she did it, the fact that she did do it and the vision that they can do it as well.

Udana found a way to work from home, created a six-figure income in just over one year and thereby maintained her cherished freedom. She doubled that in two years and established a six-figure residual income in four years. With the residual income in place she had the time to write “The Home Based Business Revolution.” She is a businesswoman and an artist who sees great opportunity in the current financial chaos and is bringing a new vision of prosperity and order to others.

Udana and I will be discussing about her life’s journey from starring opposite Katharine Hepburn on Broadway to her current mission of sharing her expertise in choosing and starting the right home based business for you.

Please call 347.327.9995 on Tuesday February1st from 10-11 am U.S. CT to join Udana and I live on the air with your questions and comments.

From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… Single Mother The “New” Father – Cathleen Williams

Did you know that there are ten million single mothers in the United States alone? One of the main problems that single mothers have is finding male role models for their children.

Women are raising children, their teachers are more than likely to be women, and many children have little or no interaction with their fathers. Children raised by single mothers have a higher risk of being involved in violence, gangs, criminal activity, are less likely to graduate from high school… and the list goes on and on.

How are boys supposed to learn what it means to be a man? Women, men, psychologists and organizations around the country are trying to answer this question.

Cathleen Williams has done it! She has successfully assumed the father’s role with her son without losing or compromising her own identity as a loving mother.

She and I will be discussing her new book Single Mother The “New” Father - sharing secrets that will help you succeed with your children.

From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… Radhanath Swami – THE JOURNEY HOME: Autobiography of an American Swami.

In 1950, Radhanath Swami (nee Richard Slavin) was born into a middle class Jewish family in Chicago. At age 19, he set out to wander the world in search of a closer connection to God.

He hitchhiked across Europe and the middle East — through Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and ending up in India. Along the way he survives multiple near-death encounters including run-ins with drug smugglers, robberies at knifepoint, an attack by a pack of wild dogs, being held captive by a large venomous snake, and nearly suffocating in quicksand.

Penniless and half-starved, he arrives in India and climbs to remote regions of the Himalayas where levitating recluses are among the many famous and unknown mystics who train him in the life of a wandering mendicant.

Today, Radhanath Swami is one of India’s premier spiritual leaders, with public appearances that draw thousands of followers. Last winter he was invited to the Presidential Palace to meet the President so she could personally thank him for all he has done for India. His contributions include: the formation of a massive food distribution center for indigent children, the establishment of orphanage, an eye clinic, and a hospital that heals both the body and the mind.

His Holiness Radhanath Swami and I will be discussing his extraordinary memoir THE JOURNEY HOME, and his remarkable journey to enlightenment.

From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… Kathleen Koch – Rising from Katrina: How My Mississippi Hometown Lost It All and Found What Mattered.

Kathleen Koch spent much of her childhood on the Mississippi Gulf Cost, where on August 29, 2005, entire towns were reduced to shoulder-high rubble by Katrina’s roaring winds and unprecedented thirty-plus-foot storm serge.

As a CNN correspondent at that time, she was assigned to cover the storm and its aftermath. Little did she know that this assignment became a very personal one. Kathleen reported form the sites of once-beautiful homes – including her own – stripped to their concrete pads.

Despite her two award-winning documentaries and countless reports on Mississippi’s recovery for CNN, it is Kathleen’s inspiring new book Rising from Katrina: How My Mississippi Hometown Lost It All and Found What Mattered that truly takes us on a journey of human triumph. The catastrophic hurricane may have devastated the landscape but not the hearts and souls of the communities.

Kathleen and I will be discussing a story of courage, hope, faith, and above all else, about bravery and resilience of the Gulf Coast residents coming together as a community of one, and her own personal path to recovery.

From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… Peep Show – a novel by author Joshua Braff

The adult entertainment industry and the world of Hasidic Jews couldn’t be more different. Or could they? Here’s novel evidence that all the world really is a stage — it’s only a matter of which costume you wear.

David Arbus will be graduating from high school in the spring of 1975. His divorced parents offer two options: embrace his mother’s Hasidic sect or go into his father’s line of work, running a porn theater in the heart of New York’s Times Square.

What else would a healthy seventeen-year-old with an interest in photography do? He joins the family business. But he didn’t think it would mean giving up his sister and mother altogether.

Joshua Braff’s Peep Show is the story of a young man torn between a mother trying to erase her past and a father struggling to maintain his dignity in a less-than-savory business.

As David peeps through the spaces in the screen that divides the men and the women in Hasidic homes, we can’t help but think of his father’s Imperial Theatre, where other men are looking at other women through the peep holes.

As entertaining as it is moving, Peep Show looks at the elaborate ensembles and rituals, assumed names, and fierce loyalties of two secret worlds, pulling away the curtains of both.

Joshua and I will be discussing, can his novel about pornography and religion possibly be kosher?

Gina Barreca is a professor of English and feminist theory at the University of Connecticut, the author of several books, a sough-after public speaker, and a writer for the Chronicle of Higher Education and Psychology Today websites. She appeared on “Oprah” where she debated (bested!) the authors of The Rules with her sharp wit.

From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… Mishna Wolff – Bestselling Author & Humorist – I”m Down – a memoir

So what does it mean to be “black” or “white” in America today? Is it something that can really be defined? And, if so, what exactly would those racially-defining characteristics be?

Mishna Wolff, a former model and a humorist tackles this question with humor, intelligence and style in her national bestselling book, I’m Down.

It is essentially the story of Mishna’s childhood growing up in a poor black neighborhood as a white girl being raised by her single father, a white man who truly believed he was black. “He strutted around with a short perm, a Cosbyesqe sweater, gold chains, and a Kangol – telling jokes like Redd Foxx, and giving advice like Jesse Jackson.”

Unfortunately, she didn’t quite fit in with the neighborhood kids: she couldn’t dance, she couldn’t sing, she couldn’t double Dutch, and she was the worst player on her all-black basketball team. And yet when she was suddenly sent to a rich white school, she found she was too “black” to fit in with her white classmates.

Mishna and I will be discussing her memoir I’m Down – a hilarious look at what it means to be black and white in America!

From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… Elaine Hall, author of “Now I See the Moon” – A Mother, A Son, A Miracle. A true story of Insightful Ways to Teach and Work with Autism.

Her career has always involved children, and when she was ready to have a child of her own, she traveled half way around the world to an orphanage in Russia to adopt a two-year old boy.

It was love at first sight, but when her son Neal was diagnosed with autism, former Hollywood acting coach Elaine Hall, aka Coach E, took matters into her own hands, and used her resources to guide him toward an increasingly independent life.

In the process, she founded The Miracle Project, a groundbreaking organization that uses the performing arts to connect with children with autism.

Both controversial and unorthodox, Elaine’ innovative approach has been praised by leaders in the field of autism. She was also the subject of an Emmy Award -winning documentary, Autism: The Musical.

Elaine and I will be discussing – Now I See the Moon; a story of hope, faith, and miracles; a story only a mother could tell.

Please call 347.327.9995 on Tuesday July 6th from 5-6 PM CST US to join Elaine and I live on the air with your questions and personal stories.

From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… Melinda Marchiano, author of “Grace – A Child’s Intimate Journey though Cancer and Recovery.”

melinda-marchiano-author-grace 123-melinda-and-rowan-round-3 lee-marchiano

Every once in a while, life presents an unexpected challenge that requires you to stay in faith; that all things are meant for some greater good, perhaps not seen immediately, but non the less for the “Greater Good.”

Until we are able to put ourselves beyond our comfort zone, we will not realize we have what it takes to make a difference in our life and in others as well.

At 13 years old, Melinda Marchiano began feeling ill. No one took her seriously except her mom Lee. Together they started on a journey that eventually tested their faith, while strengthening their love for one another when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in December 2007.

Now cancer free Melinda had written a memoir titled, Grace – a child’s intimate journey through cancer and recovery which recently won the 2010 International Book Award, to help inspire others.

Please call 347.327.9995 on Tuesday June 29th from 10-11am CST US to join Melinda, her mom Lee, and I live on the air with your questions and personal stories.

From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… Melissa Hart, author of “GRINGA – A Contradictory Girlhood.” A tender and smart memoir – a coming-of-age journey after a parent comes out of the closet!

melissahart3

Forced to live with her father by a judge who deemed her mother’s lifestyle, “unnatural”, Melissa Hart was only allowed to visit her mother and her partner two weekends a month. During these short stays, she embraced the culture of her mother’s neighborhood, seeking solace in quesadillas, musicals, and her mother’s ramshackle VW bus.

Melissa and I will be discussing her fleeting moments with her mother, her unfolding adoration of Oxnard’s Latino culture, and the ways in which she’s molded by the polarity of her parents’ worldviews – “ a touching and reflective look at one girl’s struggle with the dichotomies of class, culture, and sexuality!

Melissa Hart teaches journalism at the University of Oregon and memoir writing for UC Berkeley’s online extension program. Her essays have appeared in The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, The Advocate, Fourth Genre, and High Country News. She is also a contributing editor to The Writer Magazine.

From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… “When did I get like this?” A visit with Amy Wilson, author and performer of the off Broadway hit “Mother Load.”

amy_wilson_photo

Book

After seven years of raising kids, Amy Wilson has an overriding daily thought: she sucks at being a mother.

The Screamer, the Worrier, the Dinosaur-Chicken-Nugget-Buyer, and Other Mothers I Swore I ‘d Never be – Amy quickly discovered after having children that things don’t always work out according to plan.

Any mother who wants what is best for her child – and what mother doesn’t? – can soon, despite her best intentions, find herself on a fruitless and losing quest for perfection.

Amy finds great humor in her own journey, first to achieve what she is told is “best” for her children, then to ignore those same voices once she realizes that is not the mother she wants to be either!

Amy and I will be discussing her funny, endearing celebration of a mother’s quest to provide what is best for her kids in the age of too many options. It’s also about the doubts almost anyone has facing a giant life change, and their ability to preserve in the face of that change.

Please call 347.327.9995 on Tuesday June 15th from 10-11am CST US to join Amy and I live on the air with your questions and personal stories.

From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… “A Mother’s Day Revelation with Suzy Stauffer, the Founder of “Beyond the Bus Stop!”

suzy-stauffer1

According to my nine moms, if not at conception then certainly during delivery, moms, in just an instant, realize that their lives have just changed forever. The most important person in their lives is no longer themselves, rather it is their baby.

However, with this new responsibility comes a new challenge – the balancing act of motherhood, and one’s self identity and well being. If left unchecked, it can sometimes become so overwhelming that what was once the joyous time of a woman life soon fizzles away into a dreaded routine, which will eventually affect the entire family’s synergy of togetherness.

Suzy Stauffer’s personal triumph in overcoming this experience resulted in her creating an organization called Beyond the Bus Stop.

Today, Beyond the Bus Stop, as an organization, through its various local chapters and through its online support, has helped countless women nationwide to overcome these challenges.

Suzy and I will be discussing how moms all over the country are once again recapturing the magical heartfelt moments of being a mother, a wife, and the woman she has always envisioned of being, while celebrating the “wonderfulness of motherhood.”

Please call 347.327.9995 on Tuesday May 25th from 10-11am CST US to join Suzy, three other moms, and I live on the air with your questions and personal stories.

What kind of a woman chooses to become a surrogate?
What is she thinking when she’s pregnant with someone else’s child?
How does she feel when she delivers the baby into the waiting arms of the parents?

“It was truly amazing to share such an intimate journey with another couple, and I feel grateful for the privilege of being entrusted with my cousin’s dreams and the opportunity to give them the gift of a family. Giving is what makes life meaningful.” – Pamela MacPhee.

Pamela and I will be having a candid conversation about her experience as a surrogate mom as we look back and celebrate her personal journey of “unconditional motherly love”.

From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… “A Mother’s Day Initiative by #1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber – “Knit1, Bless2.”

debbie-macomber

“Mother’s day is a very special time for me. I make it a point to be at home on that special Sunday to celebrate with my children and grandchildren, and honor the memory of my own mother. This year I thought about the babies born into this world who may not have all the advantages that my own children and I enjoyed. I wanted to find a way to help — and knitting for charity has always been one of my passions. It seemed like a natural: I could encourage my many readers who knit or crochet to mark Mother’s Day by making one special project - Knit1, Bless2.” – Debbie Macomber.

Debbie and I will be discussing this very special heartfelt project – “Knit1, Bless2” for Project Linus Mission, Newborns in Need, and Binky Patrol, and her latest book “Hannah’s List: A Letter of Love” as we celebrate Mother’s Day 2010.

lana-noone Operation Babylift tammy-nguyen

This mother’s day is particularly very special for a few thousand parents and their children because it was 35 years ago last month that they became a family due to the gallant efforts of a few courageous men and women, and the President of the United States who collectively undertook a humanitarian initiative called “Operation Babylift.”

“Operation Babylift was a $2 million dollar US initiative that airlifted over 2,500 Vietnamese orphans out of a war-torn country in 1975 to protect them from the impending threat of the Communist Regime.
