History of From My Mama’s Kitchen®

The Kitchen was used as the backdrop for the book because all of Johnny Tan’s 9 moms grew up during the era where the kitchen served as their main domain and private sanctuary. Johnny’s moms developed their awareness for both life’s challenges and rewards from this one-of-a-kind classroom. Their experience became the foundation and teachings Johnny enjoyed over the years while spending time with these women in the kitchen. Known as the heart of every home, a place where meals are prepped, cooked and served, today’s kitchen continues to be a venue for building relationships.

Johnny’s intention of wanting to write a cookbook to preserve his moms’ food recipes took him on an amazing journey of discovering the essence of unconditional motherly love. This epiphany lead him on a new mission in his writing. Inspired and spiritually guided to share this wonderful not so secret – Secret, Johnny finished “From My Mama’s Kitchen – food for the soul, recipes for living” manuscript in nine months.

Released in 2009 with the endorsement of the National Association of Mothers’ Centers, the book has won five awards: Mom’s Choice Awards, Mr. Dad Seal of Recognition, Publisher’s Choice Awards by Family Magazine Group in 2010, and International Book Awards, and National Indie Excellence Book Awards in 2011. The book also made the Amazon Best Seller List in the following categories: Parenting & Family Relationships: Parent and Adult Child, Self Help: Spiritual and Motivational, and Cooking, Food & Wine: Essay, in 2012.

Johnny launched a weekly internet talk radio show, From My Mama’s Kitchen® Talk Radio (FMMKTalkRadio) on Blog Talk Radio in 2009. His mission is to provide listeners with a resource center rich with motivational, inspirational, and spiritual stories from guests of ordinary people especially moms doing extraordinary feats instilling a positive attitude in our global community. The show ranks in the top .1% of Blog Talk Radio’s most popular shows. Guests have included The New Times number one best-selling authors, as well as experts from the U.S. and other countries.

Johnny’s mission is to educate and inspire everyone to use the power of unconditional love as potent leadership. Using his speaking platform and radio show Johnny engages everyone by sharing his vision of personal success begins at home.
