From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… Bravo’s Shear Genius winner Anthony Morrison, celebrity hair stylist, and hair makeover artist on TLC’s 10 Years Younger.
Anthony Morrison knew he wanted to be an artist and hair stylist at the young age of 8. Growing up in London’s West End, Anthony trained at the London College of Fashion and apprenticed with international icons like Vidal Sassoon – experiences that served to further fuel his life-long passion for creating beauty. Now, with 25 years of industry experience, he is enjoying the spotlight.
As winner of Bravo’s Shear Genius Season 1, he was one of 12 hairstylists competing in challenges that required more than just talent with a comb and scissors. From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… Peep Show – a novel by author Joshua Braff
The adult entertainment industry and the world of Hasidic Jews couldn’t be more different. Or could they? Here’s novel evidence that all the world really is a stage — it’s only a matter of which costume you wear.
David Arbus will be graduating from high school in the spring of 1975. His divorced parents offer two options: embrace his mother’s Hasidic sect or go into his father’s line of work, running a porn theater in the heart of New York’s Times Square.
What else would a healthy seventeen-year-old with an interest in photography do? He joins the family business. But he didn’t think it would mean giving up his sister and mother altogether.
Joshua Braff’s Peep Show is the story of a young man torn between a mother trying to erase her past and a father struggling to maintain his dignity in a less-than-savory business.
As David peeps through the spaces in the screen that divides the men and the women in Hasidic homes, we can’t help but think of his father’s Imperial Theatre, where other men are looking at other women through the peep holes.
As entertaining as it is moving, Peep Show looks at the elaborate ensembles and rituals, assumed names, and fierce loyalties of two secret worlds, pulling away the curtains of both.
Joshua and I will be discussing, can his novel about pornography and religion possibly be kosher?

From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… It’s Not That I’m Bitter… a “Funny and Hilarious Conversation” with author Gina Barreca
In a World where Eye Cream is made from Placenta, Gina Barreca is the lone voice calling out “But wait, whose placenta is it?” Why is there no King Charming? Why does no bra ever fit? Why do people say “cougar” like it’s a bad thing? Why do we call it a glass ceiling when it’s just a thick layer of men?
Gina Barreca is a professor of English and feminist theory at the University of Connecticut, the author of several books, a sough-after public speaker, and a writer for the Chronicle of Higher Education and Psychology Today websites. She appeared on “Oprah” where she debated (bested!) the authors of The Rules with her sharp wit.
Gina and I will be discussing her hilarious book “It’s Not That I’m Bitter…” and showing women how they can conquer the world with good friends. “It’s not that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but a girl’s best friends are diamonds.”
Please call 347.327.9995 on Tuesday Sept 7th from 10-11am U.S. CDT to join Gina and I live on the air with your questions and personal stories.

From My Mama’s Kitchen Presents… Mishna Wolff – Bestselling Author & Humorist – I”m Down – a memoir
So what does it mean to be “black” or “white” in America today? Is it something that can really be defined? And, if so, what exactly would those racially-defining characteristics be?
Mishna Wolff, a former model and a humorist tackles this question with humor, intelligence and style in her national bestselling book, I’m Down.
It is essentially the story of Mishna’s childhood growing up in a poor black neighborhood as a white girl being raised by her single father, a white man who truly believed he was black. “He strutted around with a short perm, a Cosbyesqe sweater, gold chains, and a Kangol – telling jokes like Redd Foxx, and giving advice like Jesse Jackson.”
Unfortunately, she didn’t quite fit in with the neighborhood kids: she couldn’t dance, she couldn’t sing, she couldn’t double Dutch, and she was the worst player on her all-black basketball team. And yet when she was suddenly sent to a rich white school, she found she was too “black” to fit in with her white classmates.
Mishna and I will be discussing her memoir I’m Down – a hilarious look at what it means to be black and white in America!
