History of From My Mama’s Kitchen™

The Kitchen is used as a backdrop because all of Johnny Tan’s 9 moms grew up in the era where the kitchen is their domain, a one-of-a-kind classroom where they become aware of both the challenges and rewards of life, and where they discover themselves – their strengths, weaknesses, creativity, and private sanctuary.

Like in past generations, the kitchen is still today’s heart of every home. It is a place where our meals are prepped, cooked and served, and to some of us it will continue to be a classroom for learning some of life’s most insightful and thought-provoking lessons.

Johnny’s intention of wanting to write a cookbook to preserve his mom’s recipes for his sister and himself took him on an amazing journey of discovering the essence of unconditional motherly love. This discovery became the new mission in his writing as he now focuses on the relationships he have with his adopted mom in Malaysia and with eight other women whom he have known over the years living in the United States who he refers to as moms.

Inspired by their natural nurturing instincts and words of wisdom, and spiritually guided to share this wonderful not so secret – Secret with everyone, Johnny finished his award-winning “From My Mama’s Kitchen – food for the soul, recipes for living” manuscript in nine months.

Released in January 2009, From My Mama’s Kitchen – “food for the soul, recipes for living” has the endorsement of Linda Lisi Juergens, Executive Director of The National Association of Mothers’ Centers in Jericho, New York.

As a Mom’s Choice Awards® – Gold Recipient in the category of Inspirational / Motivational, this award-winning keepsake has been steadily gaining readership and support from women and mothers nationwide.

On March 31st 2009, we launched our weekly From My Mama’s Kitchen Talk Radio Show FMMK Talk Radio on Blog Talk Radio to provide a platform for everyone to share their experiences of motherly love on the air with other listeners. The show also serves as a resource center for mothers everywhere by bringing inspirational, spiritual, and motivational stories from ordinary people especially moms doing extraordinary feats to instill a positive attitude in our global community.

Going forward, we will continue to promote and bring From My Mama’s Kitchen™ concept and unconditional motherly love to the global center stage in layers. We are also doing an in house Charity Program called 9 by 9. Johnny’s vision and mission is to make a positive difference in 9 different nonprofit organizations in 9 different communities at a time.

Our current focus is on “Battered Women Shelters” in the 9 different communities he and his 9 moms have lived. 9% from the retail sales of From My Mama’s Kitchen – “food for the soul, recipes for living” book will be divided equally among these 9 charities.
