FAQ
What is From My Mama’s Kitchen?
We are an organization that is dedicated to bringing “motherly love” to center stage by leading the world in recognizing the significant role mothers play in making a positive difference in our daily lives.
This treasure-trove “motherly love” is ageless and universal. It transcends cultures and most importantly, it is unconditional. Whether you live in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, or in the Americas, all moms have the same desire to share one thing with their children – to provide food for the soul, recipes for living.
We hope our book From My Mama’s Kitchen – “food for the soul, recipes for living” about how 9 incredible moms changed the author’s life, as he shares his incredible stories of motherly love will help inspire everyone to rekindle the various heartfelt moments they have had with their moms.
Why the book is titled From My Mama’s Kitchen-“food for the soul, recipes for living”?
The Kitchen is used as a backdrop because all of Johnny Tan’s nine moms grew up in the era where “The Kitchen” is their domain, a one-of-a-kind classroom where they become aware of both the challenges and rewards of life, and where they discover themselves – their strengths, weaknesses, creativity, and private sanctuary.
Like in past generations, the Kitchen is still today’s “heart and soul” of every home. It is a place where our meals are prepped, cooked and served, and to some of us it will continue to be a classroom for learning some of life’s most insightful and thought-provoking lessons.
Johnny’s intention of wanting to write a cookbook to preserve his mom’s recipes for his sister and himself took him on an amazing journey of discovering the essence of unconditional motherly love. This discovery became the new mission in his writing as he now focuses on the relationships he have with his adopted mom in Malaysia and with eight other women whom he have known over the years living in the United States who he refers to as moms.
Inspired by their natural nurturing instincts and words of wisdom, and spiritually guided to share this wonderful not so secret – “Secret” with everyone, Johnny finished his From My Mama’s Kitchen – “food for the soul, recipes for living” manuscript in seven months.
How did Johnny meet his nine moms?
He was adopted at birth in Malaysia. Later he came to the United States to attend college. He met Southern Belle mom and his Italian Foster mom during this time. He then met his Texan Earthly mom, his Progressive and Spiritual mom, and his Sanguine Savannahan mom through his business life. He later met his Ballroom Instructor mom, Cajun mom, and German mom through his leisure time.
By the way, his book is endorsed by Linda Juergens, Executive Director of the National Association of Mothers’ Centers, in Jericho, New York, is also a Mom’s Choice Awards® – Gold Recipient in the category of Inspirational / Motivational
